Momentum & Motivation
As I have grown up as an only child for most of my life, and have always seen myself as driven and ambitious I have always tried to continue setting goals for myself. Of course sometimes I shoot for the moon and miss, but I like to think that even if you shoot for the moon and miss, you can always reach the stars!
For me, the thing about setting smart goals is making sure that they are realistic. I can easily compare myself to friends or people I know but I have to remind myself that everyone’s reality is different. With that being said I like to think about what I can accomplish with what I have and where I can go with my skills, knowledge, and resources.
Tony Robbins says that, “people who succeed have momentum, the more they succeed, the more they want to succeed, the more they find a way to succeed.” This quote really sticks with me because whenever I am feeling unmotivated or sluggish this quote really puts things into perspective.
I love running and I feel like it is just like when I workout. If I play a fun upbeat song that I love, I will continue my run and feel like I had a great workout when I power through and keep up my momentum throughout the run. Just as with school, or work, if I slow down or stop I lose my momentum. To keep things flowing is so important to me because then I feel like I can keep going onward and upward.
As of recently my “Smart Goal” has been school oriented. The goal of completing my associates degree and transferring to a four year university, and I could not be more happy to have accomplished that and be where I am today at SDSU. Moreover, now it is time to plan my next goal and I am having so much fun with that. As I am approaching my senior year, then graduation, I know it all happens so fast and before I know it I will be looking at professional careers. Everyday I see as a new opportunity and I take things as I go one day at a time. With this momentum I feel that everyday I can accomplish something and come one step closer to my goal of a professional career in broadcasting. It is so much better to work towards something when you keep the momentum up, because as soon as you stop it is that much harder to pick up where you left off and get back up to pace. However, while keeping my momentum up I always need to remind myself of the perfect balance, and that it is okay to stop and smell the roses, and not always having to be go-go-go to feel accomplished. That is a big thing for me personally, to feel accomplish and crushing my goals but also making sure I take time for myself and am the best version of me while doing so without getting way over my head, spreading myself too thin, and biting off more than I can chew.
Nice post Gabriella.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you will successful in life due to your ability to make and follow through with your plans. You also seem to have noticed that blind ambition can lead to a “success” that does not also give you happiness. Good luck in senior year.

Hi Gabriella,
ReplyDeleteI like that you mention that an important part of a smart goal is it being realistic. It is very easy to compare yourself with other peoples success, but it is very true that everyone has their own reality. I love the quote you chose to use, it really helped understand how you view success and how you strive for success. Nice post!

Hello Gabriella,
ReplyDeleteI can relate to your post quite a bit. I would always compare myself to friends who were my age and have kick started their careers while I was barely getting my associates. I realized that we all have different timing nd journeys on successes. I also like that you are being relistic on your goals since its easy to get caught up in the fantasy and the what ifs . I hope you achieve all your goals and wish you the best.
Great blog! Growing up, I have always been ambitious. There were times when I would , like you said, "shoot for the moon and miss", but that never stopped me from pursuing my goals. I think if we work for something that we want to achieve, we will achieve it no matter what. I hope you achieve all your goals in life and never stop reaching for the stars.

Learning to create SMART goals has been really important in my life; at the same time, that whole idea of "realistic" can stop me from doing hard things that I might not be able to achieve.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
