Momentum & Motivation

As I have grown up as an only child for most of my life, and have always seen myself as driven and ambitious I have always tried to continue setting goals for myself. Of course sometimes I shoot for the moon and miss, but I like to think that even if you shoot for the moon and miss, you can always reach the stars! For me, the thing about setting smart goals is making sure that they are realistic. I can easily compare myself to friends or people I know but I have to remind myself that everyone’s reality is different. With that being said I like to think about what I can accomplish with what I have and where I can go with my skills, knowledge, and resources.   Tony Robbins says that, “people who succeed have momentum, the more they succeed, the more they want to succeed, the more they find a way to succeed.” This quote really sticks with me because whenever I am feeling unmotivated or sluggish this quote really puts things into perspective.   I love runnin...

Personal Success in College

I believe that everyone has their own definition of success. After all, it means something different to us all. Throughout my college career I have always been very driven and goal oriented. As I had a very non-traditional experience, after graduating from high school in Sweden and considering attending two very good Universities in the United States, I realized I did not want to rush into anything I was not completely sure of. I decided to attend community college and really decide what it is I want to do as a professional career, and thats when I became even more passionate about my education. I had a vision, and I have not stopped pursuing my dream. Transferring to San Diego State has definitely put my dreams into more of a reality for me. I have finally come to a place where I can put my thoughts, plans, and goals into action and become who I feel like I am meant to be.   In Annie Murphy Paul’s article, “Secrets of Most Successful College Students” I definit...

Everyone Has an Opinion and Wants it to be Heard

The transition from objectivity to subjectivity is a writer’s paradise for me. I love writing about my standpoint on any given topic, my opinions and passion for something. Whereas with objectivity is solely hard facts and not as enjoyable to write about. I would rather let the audience hear my style and what I think about something, it feels more personal when it comes from the soul instead of objective which is unemotional. I would not say that because I am a woman and have an appeal towards an emotion, but then again that will be interesting when reading the other blogs to see if more women in the class choose to lean more towards subjectivity rather than objectivity and vise-versa for the men in the class.   Depending on what news source the reader is on, Huffington Post, National Review, CNN or Fox, heavily weighs into what the audience will read. Especially in an op-ed, where the author will usually have a certain opinion on a topic, and therefore depending on w...

Blog #2: Oops I Did It Again

Image
The one time I needed to mushfake a Discourse I was not familiar with more than I have ever had to mush fake a Discourse before, was when I was applying for a waitress position at a restaurant in San Diego that was much more of a fine dining restaurant I was used to working in. So it is safe to say, oops I did it again, I found myself in a position where I needed to be more mindful than usual on how I was being perceived by the person I was speaking with. I thought, what, how hard could this be? I have a ton of serving experience. However, just never for as nice of a restaurant as this fine dining restaurant was I was applying for at the time. I had experience abroad in Stockholm at a fine dining restaurant, called American Table by Marcus Samuelsson .   At the interview, I presented myself with the uppermost confidence and a big smile on my face, I felt unstoppable but once the interview questions came around, I found myself totally tongue twisted, which usually never happen...

Blog #1: Six-Word Memoir - Those Will Be The Best Memories

When I was a freshman in high school I decided that I would embark on a new adventure, and take advantage of my dual citizenship and study abroad in Sweden. I love learning more about my heritage and Swedish culture. I had no idea what I was going to experience, and that thrill of new experiences had me so excited to start a new chapter of my life. That one year away from everything I knew, was truly the most life changing experience. A culture shock. Everyday was a new learning lesson, in the classroom at my new school, every place I went, and all the new faces and people I met. Creating lifelong friendships and spending more time with my Swedish family. All of these new experiences and opportunities I came across that year has shaped me and grow as a woman. After my year abroad, when I returned to San Diego I realized I wanted to go back to Sweden and finish high school overseas. I felt that I was not done learning and growing more in such a beautiful country. Having to say goodbye...
